Result is an IATI element that describes the intended benefit from an activity. Timely reporting of result data will help data users track activities’ progresses, evaluate the result, and compare data in a detailed manner. Result information is to be reported regardless of the impact it has made. The IATI Standard offers a structured format and guideline for their publishers to publish their result data meaningfully. Yet, result element is easily the most confusing element on the IATI Standard.

AidStream provides a basic User Interface (UI) for publishers to feed their result data to AidStream according to the IATI Standard. However, many publishers struggle with publishing this element correctly. Many publishers also tend to skip or avoid this element unless made absolutely necessary to report.

Why do most publishers struggle with Result?

It is confusing and tedious.

This is the most received grievances from our users. Hence, we decided to revisit the result element.

Need for the revisit

We felt the need to re-vamp this element in such a way that the process of data entry and visualisation will be optimal. The new result design is inspired from the workings of a logical framework and theory of change. The workflow will be more relevant for our users as most publishers are familiar with either of the methodology.

Granted, the publishers are required to publish their result, we want to make the whole process much easier for them. We want to establish a sense of relevancy for them so that the reporting will not be overwhelming.

Publishers opting not to publish the result also means a hindrance in transparency. Result data is crucial for concerned stakeholders and data users to make informed decision making, tracking, and planning.

Sit-downs with existing users

We believe in iterations. The secret to good User eXperience(UX) is iteration.

After a initial design of UI and workflow, we started (and still are) reaching out to our users for a demonstration. The feedback received from the demonstration sessions are extremely valuable. They will undoubtedly help us optimise the element to the best version.

The aim of the new Result is to help users publish their data correctly and efficiently which in turn will benefit the data users.

If you’re an IATI Standard/AidStream user, share your experience with the Result element. We’d love to hear from you. Write to us at hello@aidstream.org.
